Project Sumary

In March 2014 Prahova County Department for Social Assistance and Child Protection has submitted, in order to get externally – funded grants, the financial application form entitled “Educate the present, shape the future!” , as part of the call for projects “Synergies for future – children at risk” within the Programme RO10 "Children and youth at risk and local and regional initiatives to reduce national inequalities and promoting social inclusion" financed through the Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area (SEE Grants).

As a result of the evaluation, for this application form it was signed the contract no. 08/SC/09.02.2015/SEE, for a grant in the amount of 1.613.045,40 lei

            The project aims to reach the following objectives:

A) To develop personal skills and to improve school performance for 230 children in the residential care system of  Prahova County Department for Social Assistance and Child Protection;

B) To improve the social services provided for children at risk for 70 delinquent children and street children from Prahova county;

C) To increase professional knowledge and abilities for 105 employees directly involved in activities with children from the residential care units of Prahova County Department for Social Assistance and Child Protection.

            The most important activities pertaining to the objectives mentioned above are:

A) Develop personal skills and improve school performance for 230 children in the residential care system of Prahova County Department for Social Assistance and Child Protection:

- Set up the multipurpose workshops for the development of personal skills in 4 residential care units (Sinaia Residential Care Unit, Câmpina Residential Care Unit,Filipeștii de Târg Residential Care Unit and Plopeni Residential Care Unit), that will include carpentry, pottery-making and bricolage workshops; besides all these, a sewing workshop will operate at Sinaia Residential Care Unit;

- Provide school tutoring activities in 4 residential care units (,,Sf. Maria” Community Services Centre from Vălenii de Munte, ,,Rază de soare” Community Services Centre from Băicoi, ,,Sf.  Filofteia” Community Services Centre from Câmpina, Sinaia Residential Care Unit); in order to improve their school performance, children will get the necessary help with Maths, Romanian and English; these activities will be developed in partnership with Petroleum-Gas University of Ploiesti;  

- Ensure the participation of children in the residential care system of  Prahova County Department for Social Assistance and Child Protection toclasses held by the Popular School of Arts and Tradessubordinated to Prahova County Centre of Culture, in order to develop their personal skills (guitar, piano, accordion, canto, theatre, drawing / painting, dance, arts and practical skills);

B) Improve the social services provided for children at risk for 70 delinquent children and street children from Prahova county;

 - Develop a service that does not exist at present in the range of services offered by Prahova County Department for Social Assistance and Child Protection, namely  the Centre of intervention, counselling and support for children at risk; this new service will make possible the specialized intervention in cases of juvenile delinquents (including specific activities to prevent them from repeating offences, from being institutionalized or imprisoned, as well as to prevent school dropout and to facilitate their reintegration to the mainstream education system) and the street children (with specific activities of identification, intervention and reintegration;  

- Provide all the facilities necessary to this structure, in terms of  both materials and equipment, and an adequate personnel scheme (1 head of centre, 2 psychologists, 5 social workers,1 legal adviser, 1 driver);

C) Increase professional knowledge and abilities for 105 employees directly involved in activities with children from the residential care units of Prahova County Department for Social Assistance and Child Protection:

- 105 members of the personnel directly providing services to children in residential care units will participate to training courses  (12 individuals – courses on how to coordinate and supervise the activity of multipurpose workshops and 93 individuals – courses to become trainers in the field of independent living skills and courses on methods and techniques of action and intervention in cases of children with behavioral disorders).

Other activities carried on as part of the project:

  • The awareness campaign on juvenile delinquency and street children addressed to (school) children from residential care units subordinated to Prahova County Department for Social Assistance and Child Protection – will be organized  in 20 schools and 8 residential care units subordinated to Prahova County Department for Social Assistance and Child Protection. Schools are located in the towns and cities of Prahova county: Ploiești (7 schools),  Câmpina, Sinaia, Vălenii de Munte, Băicoi, Plopeni, Azuga, Boldești Scăeni, Breaza, Bușteni, Comarnic, Mizil, Slănic, Urlați. The choice of these locations allows a wide dissemination of information. It is also equally important to carry out this campaign in the residential care units located in Ploiesti, Câmpina (2 locations), Sinaia, Vălenii de Munte, Băicoi, Plopeni, Filipeștii de Târg , in order to prevent the occurrence of these deviant behaviors with children in residential care.
  • Free time and leisure activities for children  – 2 trips and 1 camp.
  • Organize the „Festival of Young Talents”
